Period for presenting documents and delivery of goods/means of transport
What is the period for registration of a car or for its removal from Georgia?
- For cars, busses or motorcycles, which are registered abroad and have been brought into the customs territory of Georgia by a citizen of a foreign country – 90 calendar days;
- In other cases of bringing means of transport into the customs territory of Georgia – 45 calendar days;
- In case of placing the means of transport in the customs warehouse for temporary storage, the period of 45 days to deliver the means of transport will be increased by the period of temporary storage;
- • In case of paying the service fee, the period for the delivery of the means of transport may be increased up to 90 days. Besides the fees are the following:
- In case of increasing the period by 5 calendar days – 20 GEL per day
- In case of increasing the period by more than 5 calendar days – 100 GEL + 10 GEL per day.
Nota Bene!! Failure to observe the period for the delivery of a means of transport leads to the penalty of 100 GEL but not more than 1 500 GEL.
What additional information the driver of a means of transport should know?
In case of a car accident or in other Force Majeure situations, the driver shall notify (if it is possible) the customs body and act according to the instructions received from the customs body. If the means of transport was destructed, or damaged, the owner is obliged to notify the closest customs body immediately and present undeniable and indisputable evidences that the goods have been destroyed, or damaged; the evidences must be approved by a relevant government body. Otherwise the means of transport will be deemed as illegally removed from the state supervision.
Nota Bene!!In case of removal, taking away, or destroying the seal affixed onto a means of transport or onto goods without the consent of the customs body, the owner or the means of transport will be fined by 5000 GEL.
Before registering a means of transport its alienation (selling) is allowable only on the territory of the customs warehouse or in the Service Agency of Ministry of Internal Affairs. Otherwise, in case of alienation, the obligation to deliver a means of transport on the place of destination or/and to register it will not be imposed on a new owner.
What is the period for presenting required documents at the border when bringing in the goods?
For a summary declaration documents shall be submitted at the border no later than 3 business days from the date of bringing in the goods. If a relevant permit/certificate is not submitted within the period determined for a summary declaration, the declarant will be given additional 3 business days to present them or remove the goods from Georgia and in case of the goods carried by sea this period shall be extended till the submission of the declaration.
If a declarant fails to submit a relevant permit/certificate within the above mentioned period, or has not removed the goods from Georgia, the Revenue Service will abandon the goods to the state or will destruct them.
What is the period for delivery of goods/a means of transport to the place of destination?
- In case of bringing in a truck – no more than 10 calendar days (100 km per day)
- In case of transit - 20 calendar days
- In case of moving an empty truck – 45 calendar days.

What should truck drivers know additionally?
In case of a car accident or in other Force Majeure situation, the driver shall contact the customs body and act according to its instructions. In case a means of transport is damaged it is allowable to transship the goods onto another means of transport (or into another container) under the supervision of an authorized representative of the customs body, who will seal the means of transport (the container) and will fill in relevant data in the registration certificate. If a means of transport has been destructed or damaged, the owner of the goods is obliged to notify the closest customs body immediately and present undeniable and indisputable evidences that the goods have been destroyed, or damaged; the evidences must be approved by a relevant government body. Otherwise the means of transport will be deemed as illegally removed from the state supervision.
